Are you ready for our June July School holidays 2024?

School holidays will start on Saturday 22nd June (for Darwin public schools, private and independent school holidays may be slightly different – please check with your school).  Students will return to school for Term 3 on Tuesday 16th July (public schools).

Darwin Family Life has rounded up some of the fantastic options that are free (or affordable) activities to do with your kids these June July School holidays 2024.

Darwin Pride Family Fun day – Saturday 22d June

Join in for a day of free family fun from 10am to 3pm at the Darwin Pride Festival’s Family Day at the Darwin Waterfront peninsula lawns. As part of the 4-day Darwin Pride 2024 celebration, the Darwin Waterfront will host a Family Day in the spirit of this year’s theme ‘Celebrating the differences that connect us’. There’s truly something for everyone in this year’s safe and inclusive event! Kids can choose to bounce in our inflatable wonderland or get transformed with face painting by Fairy Jill.

FlicNics FREE outdoor movies – Saturday 22nd June and Saturday 13th July

The popular outdoor movie program, FlicNics is back for the dry season! 5:30pm – 9pm. Join in as we make the most of the cool Saturday nights enjoying FREE outdoor movies in Palmy! This year’s line-up of films has something for everyone, from dramas to popular animated movies for the kids.
Saturday 22nd June – Super Mario Bros. 2023 (PG) will be shown at Sancturary Lakes Gunn, food trucks will be on site for food purchases. Face painting of the movie characters.
Saturday 13th July – Barbie 2023 (PG) will be shown at Joan Fejo Park, Rosebery, food trucks will be on site for food purchases also bubble play and ‘glitter me silly’.
Art classes

Artistic Wander – School holiday paint classes

Get creative these school holiday with a variety of painting classes! Suitable for all ages and abilities! NDIS participants are welcome to join! The kids classes will be held at the Greenhouse Cafe in Nightcliff and will be 2.5hrs long, either a morning or afternoon paint session depending on the class. Parents are welcome to join but not necessary.  hold a Working with Children Clearance and happy to take care of the kids for period of the class. There’s lovely food and drink options available at the Greenhouse Cafe. For more information and to book your child’s ticket head here

There is a special cocktail class for parents/adults at the Last Supper Pizzerella on the 13th July from 3pm. The tickets include canvas, paint supplies, apron and step by step instructions. You can book your ticket here

Top End Multi Sports – June July School holidays program

Looking for school holiday fun? Keep your kids entertained & active these school holidays with their multi sports program. TEMS have their popular sports holiday program back each week in the June July holidays break. Join them for an action packed weeks of sports including: Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball (optional) + Pool & Movie Time. Their coaching staff will provide a safe environment for children to develop their sporting skills through games, skill sessions, drills whilst having bucket loads of fun. For ages 5+ 8am to 4pm (half days and earlier starts available on request)

Monday 8th July to Thursday 11th July

Cost is $250 for 4 day (week) or $75 per day

No Booking required – just wear bathers/clothes that can get wet. Parent/Guardian required to sign waiver on arrival and supervise. Go for a sail and have a paddle in the FREE school holiday fun session!
Deckchair Movie – Thursday 27th June
FREE movie at Deckchair – 10 things I hate about you (PG). Tickets are free for ages 12-25
(and the first 100 youth ticket holders through the door get a free popcorn). You can still purchase a ticket if you’re outside that age range. Make sure you come early (and dress up) as there’ll be prizes for the best 90s fashion. Book your tickets here
Nightcliff Pool Party – Friday 28th June
Head on down to Nightcliff swimming pool for a family fun afternoon for all ages from 3pm to 6pm.

Gaming after Dark (with XR VR Gaming) – Friday 28th June

Gaming After Dark is a safe, action-packed and inclusive place for young people aged 12-17 to hang out and play casual setups, compete in low stakes esports competitions, socialise and make new friends. Gaming After Dark is held at Casuarina Library 6:30 to 8:30pm, snacks provided.

Rollarama – Skate Session Friday 28th June

No frills, no structured lessons, just a cool place to skate your heart out to great skating tunes! Rollarama’s are not a coached session, they are a roller disco, perfect for all ages and skill levels. We have safe zones if the main floor is a bit too much for you. From 6pm to 8pm at Marrara Indoor Stadium. Book your tickets here

Kindness Festival – Saturday 29th June

The Kindness Festival is an annual multicultural, vibrant and welcoming festival designed for everyone in the NT to celebrate multiculturalism and unity in diversity. The festival will showcase the value of international students and migrants community while portraying the boundless ways the Territorians can show Kindness. Come experience the magic of diversity throughout an evening filled with family-friendly activities, cultural performances, international food stalls, games, and much more. Held on Saturday 29th June from 4pm at the Darwin Waterfront.

GEEK UP – Sunday 30th June

Geek Up is a FREE event for young people (aged 15-25) held on the last Sunday of the month at Casuarina Library from 1pm to 4pm. PLUS a DIY toastie station! There are three activities on offer:

-> Board Games with The GG Social Club
-> Dungeons & Dragons with Grimm
-> Digital art with a different guest artist each month

Royal existence dance

Royal Existence Dance Academy – Various dance workshops
3 weeks jammed packed of various dance workshops! Royal Existence Dance Academy have you covered with options for all ages and a theme to hopefully please them all.

FREEZE Skate Session – Wednesday 3rd July

This FREE skating session is exclusively for teenagers. Bring your friends! Bookings essential as places are limited. Ages 12-20 only from 5:30-7pm at Darwin Ice Skating Centre. Snack will be provided. Don’t forget your socks!! Registrations will open late June– no advanced registrations available. More info here

Board Game night – Friday 5th July
Board game night is on from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Alliance Française de Darwin (17 Chapman Rd, Rapid Creek). Head along, they have a couple of new games and they are now serving french wines and Pastis (to be purchased on site) along with nibbles (free for all attendees). Palmerston Youth Festival – Saturday 6th – 12th July

Head along and join in the Naidoc week family fun day celebrations from 2pm to 9pm at Jingli Watergardens.

Level Up – Cafe Skills – Wednesday 10th July

Interested in getting a job but don’t know where to start? Join the Institute of Skills and Training Australia for a fun interactive workshop on Wednesday 10th July from 3pm to 6pm. Covering the basics of café work. This FREE workshop (for 15-25yr olds) is being held at a proper city café! We’ll have it to ourselves so no customers getting in the way of you whipping up delicious toasties, smoothies and milkshakes. Ohhh, and you get to eat what you make too! musicking maestros

Musicking Maestros (formally Alphonsus Music Studio)

Build It Up – Tech Time Sessions
Tech Time sessions provide participants with hands on skills in Technology. Saturday sessions in June, July and August 2024 are now available. Stagesong Darwin – Musical in a week – 8th to 12th July

Yes! You read that correctly! StageSong Darwin is proud to present a Musical In A Week! This is a stand alone holiday workshop and is open to anyone aged 8-18 with a passion for the performing arts. No experience necessary and you do not have to be a current StageSong student to get involved. Together, you will learn song repertoire, learn about stage craft, meet new people, and put on a SHOW on the Friday afternoon. It is a full week of musical fun and attendance across all days is essential. The Friday session will run until showtime at 5pm. The cost is $240 for the week. Join City of Palmerston Library for our School Holiday Program! 3 weeks – Mon 24 June – Fri 12 July. All sessions are FREE for ages 5-12 & activities kick off 10AM DAILY.

Fun in the Parks is a school holiday program that is full of fun activities and operates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during school holidays, except on public holidays. All families are welcome to come along and have some fun. For more info on their holiday sessions head here

Taminimin Community Library holiday program

Taminimin Community Library located at 70 Challoner Cct Humpty Doo. Check out their Facebook page for more information about FREE school holiday activities. From Lego Club,  midday movies, VR Gaming, Candle making, picture book making and more. Some bookings are required.

Hooked On Palmerston 

Embrace the Top End’s fishing lifestyle in one of the lakes with City of Palmerston’s recreational catch and release barramundi competition! Open to all ages, this season’s competition will run from 1 June until 30 September 2024 providing plenty of time to tackle a tagged barramundi. Head here for more info!

Leanyer Recreation Park

Another great option to keep the kids busy these Darwin June July School holidays is to visit Leanyer Recreation park. It is a FREE water recreation park located at 215 Vanderlin Drive Leanyer. The Park consists of dry and wet recreational areas. The wet area includes a swimming lagoon (shallow in many areas – great for toddlers and young children), three massive water slides for the older kids.  There are large, grassed areas for play, BBQ’s, a dry playground, skate park and basketball courts. The Park has lots of shaded areas including over the pool, the wet play area, the skate park and the grassed areas. There are toilets and change room facilities. 
Opening hours during the school holidays are:

Wet Play & Lagoon from 10am
Slides from 11am
Park closes at 6pm
Leanyer Recreation Park holiday events:
Craft in the park: Wednesday 26th June, 3rd July and 10th July – 10am till 12pm
Yenz Entertainment will be running FREE Craft N Fun station. Put your creative hats on and get involved with some fun activities this school holidays. Your own unique creations to take home!
Inflatable Fun Days: Friday 28th June, 5th July and 12th July – 10am to 1pm
Yianni’s Jumping Castles will be back with a number of FREE inflatable jumping castles in the park. Inflatable fun is always the best kind of fun so grab the family and come enjoy a morning in the park!
Pop up Movie nights: 
Grab your friends and family for a evening at our pop up outdoor cinema. Movie will start showing at 6:30 – 7:00pm (depending on light) BYO picnic rugs, chairs and snacks. Get comfy and enjoy the movie! No registration required.

Playshack Palmerston

Why not head into the Playshack located in the Hub complex Palmerston (Shop 7, 3 Maluka Drive). Let the kids run and burn their energy on the massive indoor playground and you can enjoy a coffee or drink and a snacks available for purchase. Their hours during school holidays will be 8.30 am till 2 pm Monday – Friday, plus the usual weekend times of Saturday 9 am till 2pm and Sunday 10 am till 4 pm. Entry is only $9.90 per child and bubs under 1 are free with an older sibling (or $3). Please remember your socks!

Palmerston Water Park

Palmerston Water Park is the second water park in Darwin. It also FREE and open seven days a week. Located at Cnr University Ave and Roystonea Ave (access via Roystonea Ave). The water park includes a 14 metre high – 100 metre long – six-line racer water slide, a wet play area for families and toddlers featuring sprays, water curtains and a shallow wading pool. Another wet play area for teenagers featuring more active water cannons, buckets and high intensity interactive play, a café, toilets and change room facilities, open grassed play area with BBQs, shaded areas and a skate park. Closed Christmas Day.
Opening hours during the school holidays are:

Wet Play from 10am
Slides from 11am
Park closes at 6pm
Oasis Shopping Village – Speed Wheels Challenge 
Get ready for the Speed Wheels Challenge! Set your pulses racing with a setup of Hot Wheels tracks spread across multiple tables ready for action. Compete against friends and family in thrilling races, navigating the curves and loops of expertly designed tracks. Don’t miss the chance to put your racing skills to the test in this electrifying environment! 10am to 12pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the holidays.

The SHAK Youth Hub – at Sanderson Middle School

The Shak is located at Sanderson Middle School is located at 60 Matthews Road Malak, for 10-17yr olds. Hosting a variety of School holiday activities from Boxfit, Beauty of Tatum sessions, Rap with Riley P, Slip n Slide, Level Up E Sports, Cultural cooking and more. Check out event details here
